4×6 Photo Size in Pixels – PrintPixel Tool
The 4×6 inch print is the classic photo size, matching the 3:2 ratio of most DSLR and film cameras. Here's how many pixels it takes to print one at full quality.
| Resolution | Pixels |
|---|---|
| 300 PPI | 1200 × 1800 px |
| 240 PPI | 960 × 1440 px |
| 200 PPI | 800 × 1200 px |
| 150 PPI | 600 × 900 px |
Pixel dimensions are computed from the physical size of 4 × 6 in at each resolution.

Practical details
A 4×6 at 300 PPI needs 1200 × 1800 pixels — a figure almost any phone camera exceeds. Even a modest 2 MP image covers it comfortably, which is why 4×6 is the most forgiving photo size to print.
Because 4×6 is exactly 3:2, photos from most DSLRs (also 3:2) print with no cropping at all. Images from phones that shoot 4:3 will need a small crop on the top or bottom to fit without stretching.
